New York City has long understood the cultural power of Central Park, but on September 26, the landmark space will once again become a stage for something larger than music. Global Citizen has announced that Alicia Keys and friends, Victoria Monét, YEONJUN and YOSHIKI will join the lineup for the 2026 Global Citizen Festival, adding another layer of star power to an event built around the idea that entertainment can move people beyond the audience and into action.
The newly announced performers join an already expansive lineup that includes Ms. Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean, Lenny Kravitz, John Legend, Lainey Wilson, Shaboozey and TOMORROW X TOGETHER. The festival will also feature appearances from Bill Nye, Jordan Fisher, Katie Couric, Marcus Samuelsson, Naomi Watanabe, Nomzamo Mbatha and Vladimir Duthiers, alongside previously announced appearances from Rachel Brosnahan and Gayle King. Hugh Jackman is set to host.
What distinguishes Global Citizen from the conventional music festival is the exchange between access and action. Rather than positioning the ticket as the only currency, the organization is asking New Yorkers to participate in their communities to earn their way into Central Park. Throughout September, local actions including urban planting, beach cleanups and food donations can contribute toward free festival tickets through the Global Citizen app.
For 2026, that civic framework is focused on three areas connected to the organization's larger campaign against extreme poverty: creating educational opportunities for 2 million children, supporting 1.5 million smallholder farmers and helping provide electricity to 2.5 million homes.
Alicia Keys, who returns to the Global Citizen stage with friends, sees the festival as an opportunity to translate collective energy into tangible participation. “Every time we come together something shifts,” she said, connecting the performance to the People's Bill of Rights 250 and its emphasis on ensuring that more voices have the opportunity to influence what comes next.
The relationship between celebrity, culture and social action has become increasingly fluid. There is also a distinctly New York dimension to the 2026 edition. Through a new $25 charitable donation option, festivalgoers can secure a ticket while directing funds back into the city. Proceeds will support City Parks Foundation's free programming and community engagement initiatives across all five boroughs, as well as organizations assisting New Yorkers experiencing homelessness.
The majority of tickets will remain available through actions completed on the Global Citizen app, while a limited number of VIP tickets will be available through Ticketmaster. Global Citizen has also partnered with PayPal on discounted General Admission tickets, with the first 2,000 qualifying purchasers receiving FastPass access.
The result is a festival model that treats participation as part of the experience rather than a prerequisite hidden behind the scenes.
